Calm yourself

I’m trying to keep myself busy – making some calls, filing my expenses, dealing with a couple of overdue jobs – but I must be honest. I’m beginning to bite my nails, as I was expecting a call by now. I must keep saying to myself over and over, “have no expectation… have no expectation… have no expectation...” I think I’ll make a lousy Buddhist (if I ever get myself to that retreat I keep thinking about, and actually start to sit every day).

The trouble is, of course, that the longer I wait, the less optimistic I become. The role is also slightly less strategic, and slightly more hands-on, than I would normally pitch for, and one or two questions were raised yesterday that kind of indicated that the fact hadn’t gone unnoticed. Oh well… I can’t influence the decision any further, so I’m going to try and think about something else.

Right… I guess I’ll post an update later (gulp). In the meantime, here's another thought to finish with for now…

“The greatest degree of inner tranquillity comes from the development of love and compassion” (The Dalai Lama)

Then I guess I'll never achieve inner tranquility.

Hey---don't worry, it'll happen :-)

Thanks NYM. That reminds me, I was going to mail you with something funny.

i hope you get that call!
the best advice my buddhist teacher ever gave me was not to fight things. she said, if you are mad, feel mad, or whatever the feeling may be. somehow, the theory goes, you diffuse it by not fighting it. i dunno. i'm still working on that one. if that fails, you can always do a good workout at the gym.
also, posting about it helps, don't you think?
good luck!

Isn't this where you'd go for a run to clear your head??
Or at least have some tea and chocolate.

It's difficult to be without expectation. I know it creates dissapointment, but it also helps us to strive forward.
good luck with the call!

Kim... still waiting. Actually, that's very good advice indeed... which I normally aspire to myself. In this case, though, I think that less is more.

J - you're so right. Unfortunateli I'll be picking the children up from school soon and don't have time.

Mez - of course, you're right. But managing expectation can be achieved, I think. Thank you, by the way.

Life would be much easier if we didn't have expectations wouldn't it? Or would it simply cause us to never hope for anything more than we have? Either way, I hope you got that call. I know you'll be ok, whether they call or not. Life has wonderful things in store for you...I'm sure of it.

You're right about one thing - when there is nothing left you can do, it's time to move on to something new.

I feel for you though, waiting sucks and should only be for the patient. Good luck!

Didn't reading the Guide tell you anything?

DON'T PANIC, written in large friendly letters on the cover.

NWC, yell me about it. Just told that I may not hear until tomorrow now, and it's neck and neck :-(

KD - thanks. And it is.

KOW, do I look like I'm panicking then ;-)

My friend Anne got a call from the people who hired her long after she had given up hope of getting the job. You never know. Hang in there.

Hmmm I hope you're able to find a peace... *sigh*

I am as high strung as they come so I don't have sage advice. Especially since you can't go for a run. :-(

Too bad you don't have any lucky gal to take the anxiety out in the bedroom. I'd gladly surrender some time for the sake of you sanity. ;-) hehe

xx

Good things come to those who wait.

Bitting your nails is bad for you sweetie!! So is worrying! Smile and remember patience is a very important but hard to learn virtue.... but once you've got it down, you never loose it! I'm sure it is worth the wait!
Happy Wednesday!

I wouldn't be able to take my own advice, but for what it's worth - anticipating what is going to happen is a futile exercise.

I'll offer up some positive vibes into the ether

Well wdky - it is so important to feel your feelings, no matter what. Taking a few deep breaths may help.

LOL look at all the advise i am giving..you just need to read a few posts in my blog and you will know how calm i am *rolls eyes*

How was your meeting btw?

And what is this call all about? anyone special ;-)

And that is an interesting hand out there. So naked thursday means, we just post anything but naked right? on the net.

I like the picture a lot ... Happy HNT! Good luck finding tranquility ... I think tranquility has been pretty elusive for me ...

Oh I love this one!

This may sound like it's trite but try to view it as whatever happens is the thing that is supposed to happen. It's easy to say/hard to do because we put our self worth into it. A rejection feels like we are being rejected for who we are - so it double sucks. But I have had something not work out that years later I realized was the best thing that could have happened. So - here's to the best long term out come for WDKY - whatever it may be. (How's that? OK??)

Ah tranquility - that elusive quality..i hope you find it...great pic..hhnt!
