Through the wringer

I really do feel like I've been through the wringer this week. It started off last Friday, when some little git on a scooter drove into the side of my car and then drove off without exchanging details. After that, the burglary, which - having not experienced anything like it before - was strangely draining emotionally. The next day, I learnt that the project I was told unofficially I'd won had gone to someone else... there will be others, but this one was perfect, and high-value - I wanted to win it as the pressure would have been off for the rest of the year. Then, yesterday, the police called to say they'd recovered some papers, and I spent most of the day seeing what could be salvaged from the mass of sopping wet, muddy and torn documents that had been left in some bushes near the local school. Finally, this morning, Mum called to say one of her cats had died last night as a consequence of liver failure. It's been the kind of week that nightmares are made of, and because of all the upheaval I've barely seen the children.

Well, they're here tonight, and it's the weekend. I've decided this is kind of like starting a diet... from next Monday it's going to be business as usual, and in the meantime I'm going to enjoy being with the children and having a quiet, peaceful Saturday night. No dates, no sex.

But hey - that was some week, wasn't it? I found myself laughing as I was thinking about it earlier, which I hope is a good sign, as opposed to an indication of some kind of mental instability or temporary, stress-induced insanity. Now, if I can just stop myself lying awake all night, hammer to hand, listening for sounds of forced entry...

Enjoy your weekends, and don't leave any doors or windows unlocked. Trust me, it's good advice.

I find that if you can't find humor in even the most fire of situations your doomed.

Back to business on Monday, good.

your life is starting to live up to the title of your blog! i'm so sorry! i hope things get better. enjoy your time with your children. sometimes when i'm really down they have a way of making me feel better just by their presence.

I think that we need things like this in our lives...so we learn to appreciate the peaceful times more. I'm not saying that it's ever a good thing for someone to invade your space or your things...but it is a good thing that you are strong enough to endure it.

Have a wonderful weekend and cherish your time with your kids...remember, their why we're here trudging through every moment - miserable or not.

KOW, you're not wrong. Ther's laughter and laughter, though ;-)

Kim, I hope not... just one of those weeks, I guess!

NWC, they do manage to put it all in perspective, don't they? Bless them :-)

Eventually you will recover. I leave the door unlocked and windows open all the time. Can't be bothered with keys and locks. It is how you choose to live and what you choose to worry about. Own nothing of value except an UZI and you'll feel safer.

Glad to see you found some humor-if ya can't laugh..then....you're doomed. My parents have never locked a door or window in their lives. They sleep with them open in the summer-freaks me out. I worry someone will break in-honey sleeps like a log...thank GOD Dan hears everything.

Maybe you need a dog?

Hope you and your children enjoy a great weekend together!

Hi Carrie, and thanks for letting me know... I'll change the link and catch up a bit too.

Kimmy - it's not easy to sleep holding a hammer either, believe me :-)

being the paranoid sort, I never have left my doors and windows unlocked, and I sleep with a baseball bat next to the bed. I might not accomplish much with it, but on the other hand, me charging a burglar, stark naked, baseball bat in hand, might have more effect than I think it would.

Let it go, walk away, hug your kids, and let things rest a bit. It will indeed make them better.

Used that trick quite a lot when I worked for a police department, and it always worked like a charm. However, that work did create the sort of long-lasting paranoia that led to me sleeping with a baseball bat next to my bed, so...

;)

Maybe I'm crazy, too. And you ought never to listen to me again.

**smooches**

Have a great weekend with your babies.

Today it was cloudy and cold there, but tomorrow's forecast calls for sun and warmer temperatures. It should be a great day to spend with the children. A bright day amidst the winter wretchedness. As a matter of fact the whole weekend should get better as it goes. My prediction: A lovely weekend spent in the sunshine with people who adore you. What could be better than that?

I forget what my comment was going to be this morning; I got the 'unable to comment page'.

I had someone bust my bedroom window last night, all over the bed, while I was working- oh joy, oh bliss.

Hope you have a great weekend

Gosh that was one hell of a week that is very reflective of the name of this blog. I'm glad you aren't weighed down by it and with any luck you can salvage some stuff from the files {hug}

NML - you can say that again!!! Yes, some successful salvaging completed.
