Shopping and chicken soup

Well, it's now over week since my "misfortune". Having wallowed (embarrassingly) in self-pity for a couple of days, I decided to be proactive.

Please note, therefore, the rather attractive external hard drive in the background of the photo on the left, set for an automatic daily backup routine of all files. This is going to be supplemented by a download to CD-ROM at the end of each week. It's a bit bloody late, frankly, but better late than never (as they say).

Yesterday, I did a bit more shopping. It was quite funny, actually, because the girl in the sports store couldn't reach the bats (they were suspended from the wall at a child-proof level) and actually asked if I could lift her. This proved harder than one might have imagined, and I suggested she get on my shoulders (although for some reason she declined).

Anyway, I'd like to draw your attention to the scrupulously clean bedding as well as the rather funky bat, because this is apparently unusual for a guy living on his own. Oh, and anyone intending to visit my home for nefarious purposes - be warned. I'm likely to hurt you, probably quite badly.

I went over to Zooz's house for her birthday dinner last night, and had a thoroughly nice time in the company of not only Zooz but also Daughter of Zooz and Grant. The food was excellent, the grass was sublime, and the chicken soup I took home in a plastic container smelt gorgeous. Happy Birthday for Thursday, Zooz!!!

Glad that you've invested in the bat and God help anyone who tries to break into you! Happy birthday to Zooz! Glad that you have discovered the delights of backing up. I am going to do a big one this week (back up that is...) and get into a regular habit.

I see you took my baseball bat advice to heart. ;)

Nice Bat! That bed looks comfy. Makes me wish I was sleeping.

Glad to see you're back on your feet and moving on. See, there was a lesson learned from that fiasco - albeit, there has to be a better way.

I guess chicken soup really is good for the soul. :-)

As for that clean bedding...it makes me want to come over and rustle it up a bit. Can I?

That's a chic baseball bat (no surprise there, from a man who drives such a classy car!). I hope you never have to use it on something else than a ball...

You're going to do a big one this weekend, NML? That's nice.

Trouble, I always take your advice.

Blue, it's amazingly comfy. Pillows and duvet filled with down, and very soft & warm with a mattress that's firm but not hard.

KD, a tough lesson. But definitely learnt.

NWC, I don't know... can you?

Angel, you're far too kind. And I agree, let's hope not.

aahh, how nice to be mentioned in despatches. Thanks for the birthday message, but more importantly thanks for your great company last night.

Moving forward and hopefully never with that very chic bat! Birthday wishes to Zoozan!

wdky ~ how come a regular bat and not a soccor "bat"? Don't they work for clubbing someone? Just curious.

:-( I can't find Zooz's blog. I hope she has a wonderful birthday and please know that I am OFFICIALLY jealous that you got some of her matzo ball chicken soup!!!

The new supplies look great. I call my baseball bat "the doberman". No handguns because I have a child, when there was one...it was the rotteweiler. lol

Have you looked into getting a small yappy dog or something? Just to have something extra that will put off a burgler?

"scrupulously clean bedding as well as the rather funky bat"

I would expect nothing less from you, wdky. *smiles*

Happy B-day to Zooz! Miss you.

Zooz - likewise, although it is of course a madhouse over there. Which is one of the reasons I like it so much. Grant was on good form, I thought.

Sirreene, I don't know where I put my soccer bat, and my cricket bat's being oiled at present. hence the version you see in the photo.

Ruthie, Zooz had terminated her blog, as I think she felt there was too much "stuff" going on out there for comfort (I expect you know what I mean). I do have a half-share of a cocker spaniel, as it happens, but I don't think Lola would be particularly impressed!

Anna... you are very sweet. And very right ;-)

Happy Birthday Zooz!!!

WDKY -- your bed looks so nice and neet...I just want to hop in it and mess it up. I am definitely such a kid at heart!

I'm with networkchic -that bed looks too neat! It needs some proper breaking in!

Now why is the bat on the bed and what ya got under your pillows? hmmmmmm?

UB, don't let me stop you :-)

LL - the bat's on the bed because I keep it BY my bed at night. What on earth did you think it was there for? (By the way, there has been a bit of... errr... coming and going in that bed. Not too much, but enough.)

Looks like you could bounce a quarter off that bed...very nice...white and crisp. nice bat too. hope you never have to use it.

Nifty bat, WDKY... I can SMELL the crispness of those sheets... That vague 'hot dryer' smell that remains long after they're folded and on the bed. .... SIGH. Maybe I should trade my flannel sheets for smooth...

Love the bat!!! I'll bet it makes a cool sound as it cracks open the head of a thief.

Yay for you getting the bat!! I hope it helps!

And happy birthday, Zoozan!

I'm a huge baseball fan. Of course, living where I do that's to be expected. So tell me, surely you didn't buy it just to beat up bad guys? Or because it goes well with your bedroom set? Are you a baseball fan? And whom do you root for? Is it really for cricket? How often do you play?

I'm all laced up, but with no where to go.
Looks like the move won't be necessary after all.

Perhaps...

Kimmy, I've bounced a few things off my bed, but not a quarter!

Dark, there's nothing like crisp, smooth sheets. On naked skin, of course.

NYM, I should think it would be a kind of "thwok". Hopefully we'll never know for sure.

Cat, thanks on behalf of Zooz. And yay!

T... my sport is football (as in soccer). I used to play it, and watch it regularly - Tottenham, actually. As for whether you move or not, I'll follow you anywhere... but then you know that. Laced up... mmmmm.

My sport is hockey. I have never played it but I do really enjoy sports with a lot of cursing and blood loss. Philadelphia Flyers, The Broad Street Bullies - 1974.

You can follow me. Just make sure you place your hand on my back to guide me. When we arrive it will beg the question 'Did you lead or did I?'
The answer of course will be... yes.

Talk me to sleep. I'm restless tonight.

I don't want to seem like a pessimist, but what if someone breaks in, steals your baseball bat, computer AND backup harddrive?
