By the Way...

GG has gone to Genoa, but I received a present from her in the post this morning. A CD, actually.

Has anyone heard Toward the Within, by Dead Can Dance? Because it's so breathtakingly beautiful I wouldn't even know where to start in describing it to you. Just buy it, because if ever there was music to f*ck to, this is it. Really (download track 10 - Cantara - and listen).

I just read the comments on amazon about them. Is it all instrumental, ethereal kind of stuff? If so I'll pick it up tonight. I just need to know what section to find it in at the store.

Well, it's definitely ethereal, although there are vocals (Lisa Gerrard has her own kind of language... phonetics and noises that aren't quite English). I've no idea what section it'll be in, possibly World Music or something similar.

I just got done listening to samples. I know who they are and they're great. Over here in the colonies there is a radio show called "Echoes" based right here in my area. They play DCD all the time.

Definitely music to hump to. And if she sent you the disc I'd think she doesn't want to wait 2 weeks. ;)

I was checking their website, kow, and they're touring the States during October. They've just reformed, apparently.

No, you may be right with regard to GG :-)

They are in NYC on the 8th. I'm thinking roadtrip.

Crikey. I wonder...

So, now she wants to f*ck? Lucky you.

dead can dance is some really good stuff, its like medieval / druidic / etheral / ambient / hard to place into a category music. But all in all good stuff. If you are looking for music to make whuppie to, I also suggest Massive Attack -good stuff.

EJ, I'm a huge Massive Attack fan. If you like them, have a listen to Faithless and (slightly less mainstream) Tricky. In fact listen to Maxinquaye by Tricky if you get a chance, just because it's oustanding.

NWC, I may have to bend with the wind on this one.

yeah yeah, I got plenty of tricky :) good stuff. Never heard of faithless though and will pick them up (more likely torrent them first).

I'm thinking you may or may not know, but check out Thievery Corporation, Rhinocerause (or however you spell it in french), and Pompougnioac's earlier Hotel Costes albums. :)

Flippin sweet man, good taste in music :)

Thanks, and I'll check those too.

Faithless came out of Bristol at the same time as MA and Tricky, btw. Try and listen to Reverence if you can... I think it's their best album.

i'm all about Sigur Ros right now.

WDKY said...

Thanks J, it is rather good. I just bought another album of theirs on Amazon, which I might well review on here. If I don't have any s*x to talk about, that is ;-)

you've got to do what you've got to do :)

I can't get it in any of the shops I've tried, so I'll have to order from Amazon - and I so wanted some instant gratification

WDKY said...

I'm sure you know how to achieve instant gratification, Zooz.

I'm a bit late commenting, but I completely agree with El Jacek on Thievery Corporation (especially The Mirror Conspiracy) and with J on Sigur Ros.

AND, after reading your post, I downloaded some DCD albums and will be checking them out shortly :) I just LOVE finding new and so cool music! (I'm also going to check out some of the others mentioned in these comments)

Just been listening to some Thievery Corporation, Cat... they sound pretty cool so I might well go buy something. I'm going to look into J's suggestion now...

Hope you enjoy DCD (I have a supicion you will).

Doh, of course. I could have answered my own question pretty quickly by simply looking at your blog.

Although I was hoping it might be We Drink Ketamin Yoghurt

That was always an outside bet.
